Dear Ute, Christine and Heike: I am saddened to learn of Peter's passing and know he willl be greatly missed by all who knew him. I have fond memories of Peter and Ute and our fun times together, especially our wonderful trip to Australia and New Zealand. It is true, Peter did have a zest for living and adventure. We had many gatherings at the family home, enjoying each other with the Allens over that special glass of wine! You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Ute, Christine, and Heike,
Peter was blessed to have you 3 beautiful women in his life! Thankfully, he lived life to the fullest and I doubt he would have any regrets, other than, of course not having more time. It's such a lesson to us all to cherish the ones we love and not take them for granted- as we so often do. good-bye, Peter. You will be missed but we should all be inspired by him- to do what we love and love those around us.

When we first moved to Washington in 1975, we met Peter and Ute at a military function at Fort Lewis. It was a welcome ceremony, and when Ute and Peter heard our names they had to meet another Ute!
We invited them over that same evening and must have stayed up ½ the night talking, laughing and solving the worlds’ problems!
Our lives have been so intertwined since then with our travels and family celebrations that we feel as though we are one big family.
Peter and Ute were always so kind and loving to our children and welcomed them into their family… no if’s and’s or but’s!
Soon after meeting we had the first of many wild mushroom hunts- Peter had a nose for mushroom!! And he was so particular about how to go about it! (ie: only use a basket, never a bucket!).
Our 3rd Of July Crystal Mountain Hikes will always be fond memories. Our first was in 1976, with all children in tow. We would go all day long, with lovely picnics by the lake. Peter was always up for adventure, and one time he and our son David did a bit of ice swimming!!
The first time we saw Peters garden in Spanaway, it looked like a painting! Every rock and sand pebble in place between the beautiful plants! Real German precision!!
There were many wonderful parties, get-togethers and family dinners at the Syben compound... Peter was King of Prime rib! His recipe has become a Christmas tradition for all the Allen family.
We spent hours solving the political, moral and religious problems of the world, and not always too quietly! But whether or not we all agreed with each other, we were always friends and ready for the next go-round.
Peter, we will miss you. We have an empty space in our hearts and will always remember the wonderful times we shared with you. For Ute and the rest of the family, remember we are always here for you whenever you need us- we will come running at a moments notice-we love you all deeply and share the loss of Peter.

Dear Ute, Heika and Christina,
We are so sorry to learn of Peter's passing. We are suddenly accosted with so many memories of our times with you--your great parties fueled by Peter's exuberance and many long conversations about travel, work, DSHS, politics and whatever other topic came up.
