I was very honored to have Joy as my second mom and the grandmother to my children these past 17 years.Joy was truley to me a angel sent to our family.I can not think of a kinder, gentler, more loving person although in the beginning quiet woman that I would call mom even tho she wasn't biologically.Joy was always there for myself,my brothers and the rest of our family anytime and I will always remember that.I only saw her with her grandson Garryn a few times but you could always tell he was the light of her life. I will miss her greatly. I know she is in a much better place and more then likely up there taking care of my Grandma's gardens since we recently lost my Grandmother 3 wks. before Joy.
Love,
Denise Faye

Kathy and family,
It seems like I lost touch with Joy over the years but will always remember her loving friendly nature being a younger cousin of hers. My wife Mary & I send her family our love and wish Joy a peaceful rest.

Kathy and Family.
What a shock to the system to hear that the "Joy" of everyones life has passed.
It was in 1961 when we met. At NTHS the fearsome foursome, Joy, Charlene, Libby and I evolved. What mischieve we got into ! Going to every game possible and dance, driving through Olympia to Lacey, then Lacey to Olympia over and over again every Saturday night, and yes, attempting to ride our bicycles to each others houses. Then the group got bigger and that meant sleep overs, JOG meetings, riding around in Sally's convertible. We all had many many great times just sitting and talking.
The last time I saw Joy is the night she brought her "3 day old pigmy goat" (so it wouldn't miss a feeding) over while we sat and talked again for hours. That was many years ago but it seem like just yesterday....
Prayers and hugs go out to Joy's friends and family....
Joy was one in a million !
I appreciated my ole friend.
Cheryl

Kathy and Joy's Family, I will always remember Joy's quick wit and very funny stories she would tell my brothers and myself. She was a wonderful cousin for us and we will always rememember her with so much joy and like everyone else who has written, we are so much better off for have knowing her and we want her family to know that. My mom is now dealing with cancer and I can relate to all that Joy and her family has had to go through. My thoughts and prayers go out to you all. Vickie

I was very saddened to learn of Joy's passing. We graduated from NTHS together in 1963 and I can't think of a more fun, happy, and sweet person. Her sense of humor was wonderful and all of her friends counted on her "quick wit." In 1989, we had an "old friend get-together" at my home and Joy was in attendance. I can remember a commotion in the yard and looked to see what was happening. Joy had brought water balloons to "christen" her old friends with. We all turned 16 again at that moment and spent the rest of the day in youthful reminiscence! My heart goes out to Kathy, Joy's sons, and to her beautiful grandson. This world is definitely a better place because Joy was in it, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Dear Kathy and Family,
As I sit here thinking of all the great times shared with Joy I feel this is a time of such a loss but also some wonderful memories. Joy and I shared many a great breakfast by Heddy that included always pancakes, bacon, eggs and warm maple syrup. We took on the job of helping Heddy as servers of her wonderful meals at the Country Club...not the best servers, but great meals. I remember fishing (only catching dog fish) with Joy and Cheryl on Henderson Inlet, toilet papering a few homes in our youth. Driving "Annabelle" our college car to classes, which had to go to the junk yard even before we had completed our classes. Joy gave the car its' name. Our favorite hamburger was always at Eagan's and she even flew one to me on an airplane to California. The burger was a bit cold, but I enjoyed it anyway. I remember seeing Elvis Presley live with her at the World's Fair...such fun we had.
We enjoyed the sharing of weddings, births and the loss of family members. She always loved her home she grew up in and felt it was a part of her. She was the greatest cook just like her Mom.
Joy always took the time to care and would throw in her great sense of humor when she could. I have appreciated getting to know you Kathy now through this experience and knowing how much Joy cared and also how caring Kathy you were through her illness. She knew you would be there for her.
I am the lucky one to have enjoyed a friendship for over 47 years with Joy and to have shared in her leaving us. I loved sitting and talking with Joy when she was so ill and knowing how she handled her illness with such dignity. It was an honor to have shared this time with you Kathy also.
I know that Joy wanted her next trip to be looking for dinosaur bones and she missed out on that trip. Now she just wanted to go and see her "Mom" and I am sure she is doing just that. Remember Kathy that after just losing your Mother and now Joy's passing that you need to put on your "oxygen" and I will try to remember that as well. Joy is so greatly missed.
Love, Char

Joy was gentle, kind, and treated everyone with respect and dignity, an absolutely wonderful and hard working lady, and I might add a great cook also. I always enjoyed her soft, but chipper greeting as she came to work at the The Colonial Inn Retirement Home. I had many wonderful conversations with Joy and had always wondered where she was after she quit The Colonial Inn. Kathy, you also worked at Colonial Inn, but we never met. My deepest sympathy to you, Joy's sons, and the adorable grandson.

Joy was a special friend for many years. High school, later at Sears and different times when we had our gals get togethers. Joy was always that, a "JOY" full of mischive and fun. My dad was a Darigold milkman at Joy's home when she was growing up and dad always teased Joy and Heddie at home and at the grade school. Joy was always ready to help any time and if life gave her lemons she made lemonade. I wish I had been able to tell her myself how much she meant to me and many others that her life touched but that will have to wait until we meet again. I hope her boys have the same wonderful outlook that their mom seemed to always have. We were better for knowing her.

Dear Kathy and Joy's family,
I was so saddened to read about Joy's passing. She was one of the nicest and hardest working women I have ever known. She was so much fun to work with, we had a lot of good times in the kitchen at the senior center. Please accept my most sincere condolences.
