Obituary of Doris Fay Walker

Doris Fay WALKER June 22, 1919 – October 12, 2010 Doris was born in Seattle to Harvey A. and Erma (Stoner) Witteman at their house on Bertona St. near Seattle Pacific University. She attended North Queen Anne Grade School and graduated from Queen Anne High School in 1937. She married her childhood sweetheart, Jimmie Walker, in 1938 and raised three children, Betty, Terry, and Sally at their home on Cremona St. that her parents built in the early 1920s. After raising her family, she lived with her husband at their house on Magnolia with wonderful neighbors and a great view. She was preceded in death with the passing of her husband in 2003. She loved to travel to the Southwest, cook wonderful dinners, make pies from her mother’s recipes, make raspberry jam from her garden, bowl in various leagues at Sunset Bowl, enter all kinds of contests (and win lots of stuff), play cribbage and pinochle with her husband and his Northern Pacific Railroad friends, gamble in Reno and Las Vegas, sing in the choir at Queen Anne Christian Church, attend Ford Retractable Club events, and work at Doctor’s Hospital as a surgical and delivery room technician. She was a fun person to be around and maintained her great spirit and sense of humor until the end. After developing vascular dementia, she became a resident at the Hampton Special Care Facility in Tumwater, WA. The family is very appreciative of the wonderful loving care given to her by the Hampton staff for almost 7 years. She is survived by her daughters, Betty Franz (Gardnerville, NV) and Sally (Forrest) Miller (Peoria, AZ), son Terry (Ginny) Walker (Rochester, WA) and several grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephew. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her. Please leave your memories of Doris and condolences for the family by clicking on the "view guestbook" link below.
