Marlo Smith

Obituary of Marlo Anne Smith

Our beloved Marlo went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 23, 2010. She was born in Olympia, Washington, March 23, 1969, and graduated from Olympia High School 1988. Marlo was a very loving, friendly, caring, giving and outgoing person with a heart of gold. She would help anyone in need. She loved life and was often seen riding the city bus; she knew several of the drivers quite well. She was, we think, the #1 fan of Karen Carpenter, and had a large collection of Carpenter music. She was an avid Olympia Bears and Denver Bronco fan, and also loved daschunds. You could hear Marlo occasionally on her favorite radio station, MIXX 96, as she would call in often. She won many prizes over the years, and had quite a collection of MIXX96 t-shirts, glasses, frisbees, stickers and such. She attended the MIXX 96 Birthday Bash as often as she could. Marlo is survived by her mother and father, Richard and Dorothy Walter; brother Darryn Smith of Aberdeen, WA; and five sisters: DeAnna Aufmuth of Tumwater, WA; Brenda Smith of Aberdeen, WA; Sue Sophan of Florence, OR; Penny Smith of Hoquiam, WA; and Rita Pham of Lacey, WA. She is also survived by two nieces: Eryn Rose Ortiz of Hoquiam, WA, and Stefanee Pham of Lacey, WA; and by seven nephews: Joe Seed of McCleary, WA; Mike Seed of Tumwater, WA; Karl Arocho of Hoquiam, WA; Sai Sophan of Florence, OR; Adam Zimmerman of Tumwater, WA; Khai Sophan of Florence, OR; and Maiken Pham of Lacey, WA. Thanks to everyone involved in Marlo’s care: her doctors, caregivers, neighbors, and everyone at St. Peters and Swedish Hospitals. A special thanks to all her online friends who made her smile each day! Memorial donations may be made to the Marlo Smith Memorial Fund at Washington State Employees Credit Union (WSECU).
