Obituary of Grace D. Silverman

Grace D. Silverman Grace D. Silverman passed away on September 6, 2009 at Mother Joseph Care Center at the age of 95. Grace had lived in the Olympia area for the past 4 years, relocating from Florida to be nearer her son. Born in New York City on August 13, 1914 to Samuel and Esther Saperstein, Grace was always full of life. She married Jacob Silverman in 1935 and they made their home in Haverhill, Massachusetts and later in Manchester, New Hampshire where her husband was a shoe manufacturing executive. There, Grace raised her two children, Ginger and Robert. She was an accomplished homemaker and was well known for entertaining friends and her husband’s business associates. After her husband’s death in 1973, Grace relocated to Aventura, Florida near her mother and sister Natalie where she resided until moving to Olympia in 2004. She cultivated many friends in Florida as well as an appreciation for fine food, good theater and books. Although her stay in Olympia was brief, she also made many friends. Grace never met a stranger who didn’t become a friend. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother and great grandmother and especially loved the time she spent with her great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Natalie Saxon, husband Jacob Silverman and daughter Ginger Wittenberg. She is survived by her son, Robert J. Silverman and his wife Lois; and by grandchildren: Rod Wittenberg, his wife Bonnie and their children Max and Ashton; Katey Devert, husband Brent and their children Ayden and Rylan; Randy Wittenberg; grand daughter-in-law Marla Wittenberg and daughter Madison; Jamie Wittenberg, wife Kim and their son Griffin; Brian Silverman, wife Amy and their daughter Isabella; Laura Silverman; and Kate Higgins and husband Kevin. She will also be missed by many friends and care workers. Our thanks to the staff at Mother Joseph’s Care Center and Providence St. Peter’s Hospital for their caring support.
