Obituary of Bette Ruhl

Mary E. “Bette” Ruhl, 89, passed away on October 12, 2010 in Olympia. Bette was born July, 23, 1921 in Houghton, Michigan. She graduated from Houghton High School and graduated from The Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA with a Fine Arts Degree, at the age of 65. Bette met Jack A. Ruhl in Houghton, Michigan and they later married in Sarasota, Florida in 1942. Later they moved to Olympia to start their family and Jack’s practice. Bette enjoyed her family, planning family outings and visiting with her friends. Bette especially enjoyed her time reading and different forms of art, developing her own style with various medians. She loved playing tennis with her friends and staying active around the house. Surviving Bette are her sons, Greg (Cindi) of Olympia and Mike (Renee) of Seattle; 4 grandchildren, Michael (Jessica) of Olympia, Sarah (Charlie) of Olympia, Kelsey and Katelyn of Seattle; 4 great grandchildren, Braden, Katie, Emily and Nolan; and her sister, Jean Whalen of Medford, OR. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack. The family wishes to thank Marius and Liana Nutu and the staff at South Bay Adult Family Home for their wonderful care for Bette in her final years.
