William Munro

Obituary of William R. Munro

William R. "Bill" Munro Bill passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on December 19, 2010, after a brief battle with cancer. Bill will be remembered for his intelligence, community involvement, snappy wit, generosity and kindness. To those closest to him, he will also be remembered as a great Dad and husband. In every sense, Bill was a true gentleman. He was born October 5, 1941, to William Scott and Dorothy Munro in Seattle, WA. Skipping his graduation ceremony from the University of Washington, he married Ann McCall in June of 1964 and began a 30-year career in the Northwest banking industry. The family settled in the Steamboat Island area in 1976, building house and home from raw land. Following his retirement from banking, he spent most of his time on volunteer work and travel. As a loaned executive to United Way during his career, he acquired a real desire to provide effective help to non-profit organizations. Bill found his greatest fulfillment and peace of mind while volunteering with these organizations, from budgeting to fundraising to hands-on service. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ann; son Bill (Meg) Munro; daughter Megan (Steve) Bass; and two grandsons, Max Munro and Henry Bass; many cousins, friends and neighbors. Given Bill’s devotion to volunteerism, memorial donations would be preferred over flowers. Suggestions include two organizations where he was a member of the Board of Directors: Little Red Schoolhouse, PO Box 6302, Olympia 98507; or Together!, 418 Carpenter Road SE, Suite 203, Lacey 98503.
