Obituary of Wilmer R.

Wilmer Raymond Miller, Jr., of Lacey, WA, former resident of Salkum, Forks, and Quilcene, passed away in Olympia on September 29, 2010, following a prolonged cardiac related illness. Wilmer was born November 8, 1930 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Mary D. (McAllister) and Wilmer R. Miller, Sr. as a youngster, he moved to Washington State where he graduated from Quilcene High School with the class of 1948. He went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Teaching from Western Washington Teachers College. Wilmer served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Army as a clerk and a conscientious objector, due to his faith in the Friends Church. On June 8, 1952, he married Patricia D. Drake in Quilcene, WA. He taught school in the Quilcene area for 25 years, retiring in the early 1980’s. During his active teaching years, he was a member of the PTA, Boy Scout Leader, The VFW, The Elks Club, The Presbyterian Church and enjoyed summers working in various lumber industry or U.S. Forestry jobs. He loved the outdoors and the Olympic Peninsula. He loved people and conversation and laughter. He enjoyed good food. Wilmer particularly enjoyed spending time with his wife Pat as they RV’d together. They especially enjoyed the Southwest. He also enjoyed his photography and music.Surviving Wilmer are his wife, Patricia D. Miller; sons, Thomas A. (Peggy) Miller, Michael R. Miller; daughters, Donna M. (Paul) Ellington, Susan E. Smith; 5 grandchildren, Bob, Jimmy, Bill, Kathy, and Erik; 2 great grandchildren, Alexis and Dylan; brothers, Douglas Miller, Paul (Martha) Miller; sisters Mary (Harley) Brotherton and Nancy (Furman) Delgado; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister Patricia Ann Miller Thornton Powers.
