Obituary of Ruth Arlene McClintock

Ruth Arlene "Tess" McClintock was born September 9, 1927 into the hearts of Wilbur F. (Bill) and Lovella (Shumate) Bolender. She has one older brother Wilbur J. (Billy) Bolender who loved and protected her. The family traveled a lot with the logging company that granddad worked with for many years. Mom graduated from Olympia High School in 1947. She married Warren (Bud) McClintock and had four children: Linda Vinson of Olympia; Gary McClintock of Steilacoom; Rita Lett of Olympia and Dena Lovik of Olympia. When us kids got older, Mom started selling Avon. Oh, how good the house smelled on delivery day! She was the top saleswoman for quite a few years. In 1973 Mom and Dena got on a Greyhound bus heading south. San Francisco, CA was where they planted their feet for almost 13 years. While living there, Mom was the manager of Parklane Hosiery and kept us kids in the latest fashion of sockwear. When Mom left Parklane Hosiery, she became manager of a multi-unit apartment building on Nob Hill. Her tenants became friends and through the years they loved her like she was family. She was very proud of her career as a Professional Babysitter. Because of her popularity she couldn't keep up with all the requests, from returning tourists and regular clients, she even babysat for the singer Tony Bennett. In 1982 Mom moved home to Olympia to care for her loving parents who preceded her in death: Granddad in November 1983 and Grandma in March 1985. Mom moved the home she grew up in to 16th and Wilson in 1987, residing there until the summer of 2004. She visited Dena and her husband in Germany. She went to be with Dena for one month before her first child was born and ended up staying six months, traveling to many places in Europe while there. Mom loved working in her yard and planted many beautiful flowers, trees and shrubs. She was very active in "SOLOs" a senior group in her church, Evergreen Christian Community. She loved the "get togethers", playing cards, games, puzzles and the fellowship. Of course, the potlucks were a favorite, Mom loved to eat!! Mom loved her lord and the church, where she had many friends. Mom volunteered many hours at Seven Oaks Elementary for the reading program. She helped young readers develop a confidence and love for reading . Mom spent many hours reading to her granchildren and great grandchildren. Due to health reasons Mom was unable to stay in her childhood home she loved so deeply. She moved into the Sequoia Assisted Living Facility in August 2004 where the residents, staff and medical providers grew to love her. When hospice was needed, Shari and Ruth, two "Guardian Angels" were sent to her. We loved and trusted them with the utmost respect. In November of 2004 Mom's dream of her children reuniting became her "MIRACLE". After seven months at the Sequoia, we moved Mom on March 28, 2005 to the Olympia Manor where a higher quality of care was provided. On March 30, 2005 her "MIRACLE" was still true as she was surrounded by her four children, being held in their loving arms when she went to be with her Lord and Savior. She is survived by a brother, Wilbur J. (Bill) Bolender; Sister-in-law, Letha Bolender; their five children (spouses), Kathy (Bruce), Wendy, Danny (Kris), Dave and Johnnie (Nancy); Daughter, Linda Vinson; Granddaughter Tonya; Great granddaughters, Britney and Sierra; Grandson, Harold; Great granddaughters, Bailey and Aubrey; Son, Gary McClintock and wife Sandi; Grandson, Gary and wife Leighann; Great grandson, Kyle and Granddaugter, Amanda; Daughter, Rita Lett; Granddaughter, Robyn; Great grandson, Brandon; Granddaughter, Rhonda and her husband Craig; Great Granddaughter, Oceanna; Granddaughter, Renae and partner Kyle; Great Grandson, Kyle Jr.; Granddaughter, Ryanne and partner Shem; Great granddaughter, Kiley and Shem's children, Maggie and Julian; Grandson Philip (PJ) and partner Amber; Great granddaughter Trinity; Grandson, Patrick (Joey) and Grandson, Charles (Buck); Daughter, Dena Lovik; Grandson, Gideon and Granddaughter, Kaitlynn. There are also many cousins. A Memorial Service and reception will be held, Friday, April 15, 2005 at 11:30 a.m. In Mom's memory, donations may be made to Providence Hospice, PO Box 5008, Olympia, WA 98509; Timberland Regional Library, 500 College St SE, Lacey, WA 98503 and/or Thurston County Animal Services.
