This message is sent with our best wishes and great sympathies. Doug, "Uncle Fud," enriched our lives and always provided us with a good laugh. We knew from the beginning he was quite the character -- The Townleys first met Doug when we was leaning against the window of our newly purchased cabin in 1981. Doug was peering in, face close to the window, hands shading his eyes, checking out the trash burner in the cabin's old kitchen. Of course, we gave Doug the object of his desire (that old trash burner!) and a friendship of 25 years was born!

May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face. May the rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, my God hold you in the palm of his hand.

So sorry to see the notice of your father's death in the paper today. It seems that no matter how long a parent lives it is never long enough. You do have some wonderful memories of him and I'm so glad he was able to find a bit of happiness after your mother's death. My love and prayers are with you and all the family.

Doug was a good friend and I"m glad I went to see him shortley before he died. We worked together at one time at the Dodge garage many years ago. Our hearts go out to the rest of the family.

Blessings to the Keyes family, and to lovely Rita. When the waters of Young's Cove sparkle, it will remind us all of the vibrant twinkle in Doug's eyes. He remains with us, in the spirit of the salmon, the calling of the gull and the sounds of the Sound. Much love and support.

Doug was a mentor to me, teaching me how to care for my boat and keep her safe, swinging on the ways in Young's Cove. Doug would always note the weather, the migratory bird activities, state of the tides and state of the world. He was a thougthful and skilled man to whom I owe many thanks. The neighborhood Christmas kayak/buffet was merry and it was super to see Doug and Rita and everyone there! Thanks to the family for this annual occasion! - Mark

We are so sorry about your dad. He was a really sweet man. Our first memories of him are the times he came to Griffin with your mom when she taught square dancing. He was always so pleasant and cheerful whenever we happened to see him. We are glad to have been able to know him. You are in our prayers.

Doug will always be a friend in my memories, he and Clara, and later Rita are the kind of hard working, trustworthy, and loyal people that built this country we live in.
My favorite memory of Doug is coming into the warm house and taking a tool off the shelf and asking him what this one was used for, he most always had a reason and sometimes would even create a project just to use that tool.
I wish I could know as many things as he forgot.
Doug you were a really good guy to me and our family, thank you.
