Ed was one of those special people we will never forget. He and Pat had 51 years of the kind of marriage some only dream about. Ed treated everyone the same, and his family was always first in his life. Ed and Pat were our tour guides on several trips together, and when in Europe, he and Dwight tried every kind of beer sold in the five countries we visited! He served his country, loved his family and will be missed and fondly remembered. We love you, Ed, Rosalie (Pat's sister) and Dwight

Dear Pat,
I treasure our memories, going back to 1961 in VP-6 in Hawaii when you and Ed were the first married folks to take pity on a new bachelor in the squadron and invite me to a wonderful home cooked meal. I loved it and we have been good friends ever since. It was such a pleasure in April of 1964 to fly co-pilot for Ed on a 6 hour training mission out of North Island with his Navigation students from VT-29 in Corpus Christi. It was our only flight together. I wish there had been more. Calls and visits during your years in the South Bay area of San Francisco, our VP-6 reunion in San Diego in 1981, and Christmas cards always kept us in touch. The capper was, when we discovered we were all Dachshund lovers and you two helped Cheryl and me sooooo much with our Doxie learning curve. To quote you two "Dachshunds are just cute little food thieves". You are so right.
It is hard to describe last year's visit in Lacey, but wonderful is a pretty good start. We will never forget the fun times we spent with you two and little Bogey. We learned quickly to Love him Too.
We miss you Ed; you inspired a combination of respect and warmth, we'll always have that. We'll always hear your strong, steady voice, so reassuring. You gave us so much; Thanks!!
Aloha!

Dear Patsy, I just this morning read my e-mail and learned of Ed's death. We are so very sorry to hear the sad news. When we met Ed (for the first and last time) at the reunion, we were immediately friends, for he was so outgoing and fun to talk to. I know he will be greatly missed by his family and friends. You are in our thoughts and I do hope to see you one of these days. You have a "suite" here at our home if and when you come to Spokane for a visit or en route to Montana. Love, Penny and Russ

Dear Pat and Family, Missing my dear friend Ed, with the twinkling eyes and slow infectious smile. I remember our wedding day when he was seen searching through our pantry, only finding brown rice to throw after the ceremony. Also remembered are our fun trips shared over many years in California, Montana, Washington and Oregon. It was a pleasure to have such a good friend in our lives. Love, JoAnn

We will think of Ed and toast him on their mutual birthday. It will take a long time for this to sink in since he was taken so swiftly. Please know that you both are in our thoughts and prayers.

Hi Pat: We remember being newlyweds together in Elinor Village, Pensacola. It was so humid for you northwesterners. Remember being neighbors in Magda Village, Whiting Field. Remember Monty, Johnny Cash, and getting together with the Hahns and Davises. Remember all those good times and the wonderful marriage you had for over 50 years!

Hi Ilgen family. I have so many memories of Ed from my childhood / early adulthood. Mostly including FHS football games, golf and cards. Later on, travel with my parents etc. That anniversary card you guys would send back and forth every year is priceless. I know you will miss him. That goes without saying. I'm sure your heart is breaking too, I hope you can get some peace from it soon. My mom can help you.... just call. He was a good man with a hearty laugh and a great friend to my parents.
You will all be in our prayers.
Love,
Maureen, Dave, Adam and Paul Carter

May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
May the rains fall soft upon your fields
And until we meet again
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

I will miss Ed's smile and hug when we got together. His sense of humor was so enjoyable! We could talk about most anything and seem to have such comraderie and agreement. He will always hold a place in Eric's and my heart. I am thankful to have shared times in his life!
