Obituary of Donald W. Hewitt

Donald W. Hewitt Donald William Hewitt, 83, of Olympia, Washington died on September 13, 2009. Don was born February 8, 1926 in Hollywood, California to William and Anna Hewitt. The family moved to Portland, Oregon when he was two years old. He was raised in Portland where he met his life long sweetheart Nancy. Don went to Oregon State University and graduated with his degree in engineering. He served in The US Air Force from 1946 to 1948. Don and Nancy were married in Portland in 1963 and soon moved to the Washington State area. Don was a civil engineer and retired in 1980 to pursue his passion of touring on his Honda Goldwing Motorcycle and Volunteering in the community of Olympia of which he loved. Don was part of the Olympia Jr. Programs for 26 years, the American Red Cross and many other organizations. He was a member of the Tumwater Rotary for 36 years and served as president for two terms. He was very proud of being a member of Westwood Baptist Church where he felt so at home and close to God. Don is survived by his soul mate of 46 years Nancy; daughters, Terriann Silvestri and her husband Mike of Charlotte, North Carolina and Tammi Pearson of Tahuya, Washington; grandchildren Travis, Max and Dominic Silvestri; and many other loving relatives and friends. Don loved to see people smile and always used the phrase “God gave you a beautiful smile, keep it up!” A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at Masonic Memorial Park, 455 North St. SE, Tumwater followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. at Westwood Baptist Church, 333 Kaiser Rd.
