Obituary of Marlene Hawley

Marlene Hawley After a lengthy decline in health, Marlene Edghill Hawley passed away September 10, 2009. Marlene lived virtually her entire life in Puyallup WA. She moved here from Mount Vernon when she was ten with her family, who opened Wilson's Food Store across from Stewart Elementary School. They began attending services at First Christian Church of Puyallup where she remained a member her entire life. She went to Puyallup High School and remained close with many of her friends from the class of '56. She attended University of Oregon and Northwest Christian College and taught school for one year before deciding to work as a children's librarian instead. She went back for her Master's in Library Science at University of Washington, and worked from 1965 to 1982 in the Tacoma Public Library System. In December of 1970 she went on a date with a gentleman from her church, Jim Hawley, and they were married just nine months later. They were happily married for 25 years before he preceded her in death. She spent the last eight years of her life being a favorite resident at Rainier Vista Care Center in Puyallup. She is survived by her aunt, Carol Wilson, and her daughter Amy, son-in-law Aaron, and three adorable grandsons; Alaric, Garrett and Valdemar, who's love and company she cherished; also, her Uncle Bill Richardson and his sons John, Steve and Mark, two step-sons Dennis and Patrick Hawley and all their families. Memorial service will be held at Puyallup First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) on October 3rd at 2pm. Family is collecting donations of books and monetary donations for the children's section of the Tacoma Public Library System.
