Obituary of Bertha L. Gilbert

There will be a viewing Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the South Sound Manor, 455 North St. SE, Tumwater. In addition, those who wish may pay their respects one hour before the service. Bertha Luella Gilbert, 88, died Sunday, April 11, 2010 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Bertha was born February 17, 1922 in Olympia to John Edward and Olive Isabel (Mason) Lilley. She was a proud life-long Olympian living here except for a few months of her life.In 1946 she met a young man, Leslie William Gilbert, at the roller rink. On October 16, 1948 she married her sweetheart and eternal companion. Bertha was an exceptional homemaker and one of the best pie makers ever. She loved all things of beauty. She loved flowers, nature, nice dishes, and things to beautify her home. But her greatest love was her family. Bertha was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served the Lord in many capacities such as teaching children and young women. She was a Relief Society President and later a Librarian for ten years. She and her husband worked in the Seattle Temple for eight years. She is survived by her husband, Les; children: Edward Smith, Portland, Arlene (Darryl) Wilks, Cusick, Washington, Marilee (Ken) Salvesen, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Timothy (Alisa) Gilbert, Anchorage, Alaska; two sisters, Annabell Lilley and Margaret Peck; two brothers, Delbert Lilley and Richard Lilley; ten grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
