Obituary of Beulah Gerrish

Beulah Mae Stainer Gerrish, born in Spokane, Washington on March 16, 1933 passed away in the comfort of family members on March 24, 2010. Beulah was the only child of John and Helma Stainer, and grew up in Spokane surrounded by loving parents, aunts, uncles and grandparents. A happy and creative child, Beulah enjoyed embroidery and baking and became an excellent cook in later years. Beulah was a supportive and giving person and had devoted friends that remained close throughout her life. She was very involved in Job’s Daughters in her youth, was also an Eastern Star Member and, as a mom, was active with her children, supporting them at many, many Job’s Daughters and Demolay events and meetings over the years. As a young woman Beulah worked for Standard Oil and attended Washington State University where she met her husband of 52 years, Jim Gerrish, on a blind date. The newlyweds lived in Germany, where Jim was stationed in the army, the first two years of their marriage and returned to the states with a fondness for Germany and brought home their first daughter, Sheryl. Settled in Seattle, two more children, Brian and Susan were born in the following years and Beulah was a homemaker until her youngest daughter started school. Working from a small home office, Beulah worked as the manager of the Darigold Federal Credit Union, a position she held until her retirement in 1997. While working full-time from home and then later moving the office out of the home, Beulah was a dedicated mother and wife and was always a support to her children. A hard worker, Beulah also enjoyed many hobbies including ceramics, knitting, organ lessons and traveling. She seemed to always be making something special for her family and friends. After retiring, Beulah continued to enjoy her creative activities, spending time and traveling with Jim, and being with her children and grandchildren at family gatherings and vacations. Beulah had a wonderful sense of humor, a million-dollar smile and was a beautiful person. Beulah was preceded in death by her husband, mother and father and is survived by her son Brian (Christy), daughters, Sheryl and Susan (Dale) and four grandchildren, Brianna, Christopher, Heather and Matthew. She will be dearly remembered and missed by her family and many friends. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice in memory of Beulah Gerrish.
