Obituary of Charles W. Fromhold

Bill was born in Seattle, WA on August 11, 1942 to Arthur and Myrtle (Elseth) Fromhold. He passed away in Seattle, WA on September 30, 2010 from leukemia.Bill’s early childhood was spent on St. Paul Island in the Bering Sea. After his father’s death Bill moved to Tacoma, WA with his mother where he graduated from Stadium High School in 1960. Bill graduated from the University of Puget Sound with a BA in 1966 and an MBA in 1970. He served as a training and operations officer in the US Army from 1966-1969. Bill served in leadership roles in a variety of public and private sector organizations. Most notably Bill was the Superintendent of Educational Service District 112 in Vancouver from 1981 to 1993. He had a distinguished record of service in the WA State House of Representatives from 2001 to 2008 where he was the Vice-Chair of the Appropriations Committee, Chair of the Capital Budget Committee and Chair of the Pension Policy Committee. He was instrumental in many bi-partisan efforts to improve K-12 and Higher Education in Washington. Bill’s greatest satisfaction was to be known as a problem solver. Bill was devoted to the Vancouver community where he served in many roles including as a trustee for Clark College, board member for the Washington State University Foundation, the Washington State University Vancouver Advisory Board, the Columbia River Economic Development Board, and the Evergreen School District Foundation Board. First and foremost Bill was devoted to his family. He was preceded in death by his son, Trevor, who passed away at age 4 in 1973. He is survived by his wife Marcia; his daughters, Kristie (Judd) Williams and Kelli (Shawn) Blubaum; and Marcia’s sons, Will and Sam (Kristin) Costello; as well as seven beloved grandchildren.
