Obituary of Carolyn Dibble

Carolyn Dibble passed away October 5, 2010 of kidney failure at Olympia Manor in Olympia, WA. She was born November 14, 1926 in Seattle and was raised by Mae and John Jenkins in Olympia. Carolyn graduated from Olympia High School in 1945 where she played the clarinet, was a member of the French Club and the Honor Society. After school and during the summer she worked at Seval’s Ice Cream Parlor where she was reprimanded for dishing out super-sized cones to special friends. During World War II, she went to Ft. Lewis weekly to dance with servicemen and helped out at the USO. After graduation she worked for Sunset Life which she enjoyed very much. She married Warren Dibble in Olympia on June 14, 1947. They met when she had picked up film at the Rexall Drug store where some of his pictures were mixed in. He showed up on her doorstep to reclaim them. They lived a short time at Boston Harbor, then moved to Tumwater Hill. Carolyn quit work to become a fulltime mom and was kept busy raising their sons, Larry and Greg. She also enjoyed bowling, playing cards and her yard. The Dibbles purchased property at the end of Steamboat Island road in 1957, where they enjoyed many summers. The small cabin expanded over the years and 1979, they moved there permanently. Over the years there were many gatherings, holidays, fun on the beach, happy hours, and card games with family and friends. The door was always open, the coffee pot on and you were greeted with that famous great smile on Carolyn’s face. After Warren died Carolyn began to attend the monthly luncheon of her OHS classmates, which she treasured. She also enjoyed her weekly dinners with the “Islanders”, time with good friends, and her flowers (when the deer weren’t eating them!) She is survived by her sons, Larry (Kim) and Greg (Debbie); grandchildren, Kalynn, Kevin, Andrew, Paul and Richard; two great grandchildren; brother Hank Kessner; and nephew Jerry Auvinen. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Warren, in 2003; also her sister Charlotte Tiedt; and niece Arlene Jordan. Donations may be made to Medic One or a charity of your choice. Carolyn left this life with dignity, the way she lived it. Please sign the guestbook and leave your memories by clicking on "View Guestbook" below.
