Obituary of William Stanley Dean SR.

William Stanley Dean Sr., of Olympia, went to be with the Savior he loved on April 18, 2010. Bill was born August 26, 1920 in Eston, Saskatchewan Canada to Harry Evelyn and Olive May (Shaw) Dean, one of 10 children. William enlisted in the Washington Army National Guard 1940 and served for 3 years until he was activated August 31, 1943 and served both at home and overseas, during World War II being honorably discharged on February 8, 1946. His overseas service was in the European Theatre of Operation, being stationed in France. He served as a Paratrooper in Battalion C, 458th Parachute Battalion, field Artillery,13th Airborne Division. During his military career he advanced from Private to Corporal to Staff SGT. He became Senior Chief of Section leading a 75mm Howitzer Unit. He was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, the American Theatre Service Medal, good conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. He qualified for the Parachutist’s Badge and as Sharp Shooter on the carbine. Bill was married September 28, 1940 at Calvary Tabernacle, Centralia, WA to Estol Doreen Fox.He worked as a Dry Cleaner, Several places including many years at Olympia cleaners. He also worked as a landscaping crew boss at Panorama City. He was a committed believer in Christ and served God faithfully from the time of his decision to follow Christ to his last breath. He held membership and was very active in church from an early age, serving as a board member and worship leader in several churches including Calvary Tabernacle in Centralia, WA, Calvary Tabernacle in Olympia, and Calvary Christian Assembly in Olympia, WA. Bill was a generous man of high integrity and godly character, an amazing example for his family and many others. He lived a life of love, and kindness, which attracted everyone he met to him and to the Savior he served. He and Estol Doreen demonstrated their love for each other and their family everyday. He had an incredible work ethic, and continued to work into his later years, having retired and gone back to work three times before finally retiring in 1995, at the age of 75. Bill enjoyed softball and baseball, gardening and Family. Surviving Bill are his wife, Estol Doreen Dean of Olympia, WA; two sons, William Stanley Dean Jr. - Lacey, WA (Anna), Timothy Charles Dean – Lacey, WA (Lisa); daughter, Dixie Joyce Zahn (Clyde), Lacey, WA; 9 grandchildren; 14 Great grandchildren; brothers, Leslie, Russell, and Arthur; and a sister, Mary Sanborn. There are also many others unrelated to him, too numerous to mention, who were part of Bill’s extended family and who also love him and will miss him as Grandpa Dean. Bill was preceded in death by a daughter Geraldine Claire Houser; grandson Gabriel Matthew Watson; parents Harry E. Dean, Olive May (Shaw) Dean; brothers, Harry Dean, Kenneth Dean; sisters Dorothy Chamberlain, Blanche Halverson (Bill’s Twin), Jean Ball.
