I was just thinking about Dr. Sapp and what an angel he was to me when I was in high school and worked in his office. He was very kind to me. I was a tiny character in his life. I met him when he was my orthodontist. then he hired me to clean his office and do filing and office work and such. I needed a safe space when I was not at school and he provided that for me by allowing me to work on the weekends cleaning, filing and answering phones when the office was empty. The money I earned was part of how I paid for college so I could eventually support myself and create a safe space for myself ultimately. He probably wouldn't have remembered me but I sure remember him. He was so kind to me and so supportive of my efforts to survive. I didn't stay in touch after 1985, when I left Olympia and moved to Seattle, but I thought of him throughout the years. I'm sure he had no idea how much his kindness helped me. I just wanted those of you who knew him and loved him to know that he made such a difference in my life just by being who he was. I'm glad he had you all to love him. He was a good friend to me when I needed a friend.

I wanted to speak at Curt’s service but was afraid I would cry and not be able to get the words out. There were so many qualities I loved about him. He genuinely cared about people. He would do anything for anyone. The first time we met we felt so comfortable with each other. After our third date we couldn’t stand to be apart.I felt like I had waited for him my whole life. He was my best friend. We shared the same music which was such a big part of his life. He tried to fill our lives with concerts, travel and adventures. It was almost like he knew we didn’t have much time.I will never forget the trips we took.our last was a 10 day cruise through the Baltic on a 5 masted sailing ship.we sailed from Stockholm to St. Petersburg , Finland and finally back to Stockholm where he surprised me with my engagement ring.We were sitting outside at a small cafe when he asked me to marry him. Lots of wonderful memories, but the ones I loved most were the simple day to day memories. Sitting next to each other watching watching Big Bang re-runs ( his favorite).sitting on the deck, sunsets and walks on the beach.
Curt had spent his whole life taking care of everyone so I really tried to do that for him especially the last few months.I don’t have any regrets , I know he felt truly loved.I gave him my whole heart, all my love and friendship. I miss him like crazy, I miss his smile, the twinkle in his eyes, the smell of his hair and the sound of his cowboy boots on the tile floor. I will love you forever my Curty, my love.

Dear Sharon, Jagger and Hunter,
I am sorry to hear about the loss of your husband and father. Curt was highly intelligent, professional, compassionate and thoughtful. I first met him in 2001 when I was looking at having my bottom teeth straight to enhance my smile. I had braces in my early twenties. As Curtis goes onto his “New Life” may the good memories linger in your hearts. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this difficult time.
Warmly, Victoria

Such a beautiful service today. Curt was my daughters’ (Ellen and Amy Vail) orthodontist and they attended Gloria Dei with Jagger and Hunter. Curt gave my girls their beautiful smiles. He and I had many good visits during appointments. I always thought highly of Curt, but today I learned even more about what an incredible person he was. My heart goes out to you boys, Sharon, and the rest of the family. I am so honored to have known such an incredible man!

When I came to town, 25+ year ago, as a new orthodontist, Curt was one of the first to welcome me. Even as a potential competitor he not only welcomed me to town but also as a member of the orhodontic study club that he was a member of. He quickly became a wonderful friend. I will remember Curt as a professionally intelligent person, humorous (to say the least), and someone who knew “everything” about “anything” or “anyone” that was going on “anywhere”, that is how fully engaged, with others, he lived his life. One of my fondest memories will be the “Father/Son” outing we had to the “91” Rose Bowl. Curt and Jaegger/Myself and Joe. Go Dawgs! National Champs!
My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time, May you be blessed with the fond memories of Curt.

Curt and I are/were cousins. (This past tense thing is difficult to write.) Our mothers were sisters. I remember Curt’s caring concern for others, his gentle approach, and his warm laughter. I remember his boyhood visits to us in Bellingham, the fun he had together with Jonathan and with Winton, his age-mate cousins. I looked on as the older sister-cousin. Later the visits were while getting an education and then in discussing professional activities and also family affairs. At family reunions, he expressed interest in our heritage and wanted to pass the family stories on to his children. He will be missed by many. Wish I could join you all at the funeral tomorrow, but I will be sitting it out at home in snowy Michigan. Sending warm hugs for all as you remember and celebrate Curt’s life. John, my husband, also remembers and sends his best to the family. Christa

When our oldest son needed braces, we consulted several orthodontists in the Olympia area. I will never forget Curt saying the reason he got into it was because of the money… “If one child needs braces, odds are the rest of them will also”… I was touched by his honesty and humor. As it was, after 4 children in braces, I think we paid for at least one of his Corvettes! He was such a generous, involved individual of the Griffin and Olympia communities. Our conversations would always lead to his sons and their accomplishments. He was a proud father. Blessings to the family and all those he left behind. We are all better having had Curt in our lives.

I and my family (Margaret–wife, Matthew, Katie & Nate–children) extend our deepest sympathies to the Sapp family on Curt’s passing. Curt and I both arrived in Olympia to begin our dental careers in 1980. He was one of the first people I met and developed a deep professional and personal friendship . At the time, we both had young families and enjoyed our times together. As a family dentist, I had many opportunities to refer patients to his orthodontic practice. What a caring man! I know that there were many times that he made orthodontic treatment possible for patients who might not be able to afford it. He brightened many smiles in the South Sound area.
I will always remember Curt visiting my office at Christmas time dressed in his Santa suit. That is a memory that I cherish for the rest of my life . His annual gifts of Mt. St. Helens ash ornaments occupy a place of honor in our home. Our kids have even asked if we allow them to take some for their homes to continue his tradition.
Our family will miss our friend Curt deeply.

From the Wachter/Weber family, we extend our deepest condolences to Jagger & Meghan and to Hunter in the passing of your dad/father-in-law. We spent many an occasion at Griffin School sporting and music events together, and later, as part of the Capital High school community. Birthday parties and fun beach times were shared, too, at your family home or at ours. Added to this, your dad was our orthodontist, so we had a lot of interaction with him, there, too, and remember him as a kind and funny guy. Despite his serious health conditions, he maintained his zest for life and never failed to engage in conversation about his sons and the Wachter “boys” wherever mom Pat ran into him in the community. May your loving memories comfort you as you continue your lives, for he will not truly be far from you.

Curt was one the first colleagues who introduced himself to me when I came to Olympia in 1984. He and I shared many professional associations over the years..both pharmacy grads, dental school grads, and he chose Orthodontics rather than Pediatrics and me vice versa. He was on of the most generous and caring people I have ever had the priviledge to call a friend. We shared so many Husky and Sonic games, concerts from Ray Charles to Bruce Springsteen and Paul McCartney and Wings at the Kingdome. Shared many days on his boat and my jet ski out in Eld Inlet. He was always giving back to his community and especially the youth of our community. I will miss you greatly my friend .

To Jagger & Meghan and to Hunter, we extend our condolences in the loss of your dad. We enjoyed being part of the Griffin School “team” along with your family, and then as part of the CHS culture, as well. Your dad was Ryan & Kyle’s orthodontist, as well, so we knew him casually as well as professionally. How many athletic and music events did we attend together? Too numerous to count! Almost as many as visits to his orthodontic clinic! You will keep him with you throughout your journey in life, wherever you go. In sympathy, Ryan & Kyle Wachter and Pat Weber (mom).

I had the privilege of working for Dr. Sapp and during my employment I witnessed him being an incredible giver. His obituary doesn’t mention the generosity Curt bestowed on our community! He was truly the most giving man I have ever met. Not only did he make the smiles in our community brighter but the future of many of his patients, employees and his employees families! Curt has touched so many people in this community his presence will be sorely missed.

I met Curt when he was a pharmacy student dating my cousin, Linda, while we attended Western and later the UW. We appreciated his quirky sense of humor and passion for life. Later, Dennis and I lived in New England while Curt was in grad school in Hartford. I have fond memories of attending an uproariously fun costume party together at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design.
In the decades that followed, Curt was generous with his friends and family. My family appreciated his commitment to practicing in Shelton.
RIP, Curt! I hope you find some fun parties!
