I tried to phone Mardelle today, on what would have been the 62nd anniversary of her marriage to Mel, my old friend and boss of many years. Upon hearing an out-of-service recording, and fearing the worst, I googled her name and, sadly, learned of her death 2 1/2 months ago. I wish I had known, as I would have attended her funeral, as I did Mel’s two years ago.
Like Mel, Mardelle was a thoroughly kind and decent person, a devoted Catholic, and a loving wife, mother and grandmother. I miss them both.

I met Mardelle when I joined St. Jude’s Guild in 1995. She was a woman of so many talents. For years she baked a special bundt cake for my Christmas family dinner, brought it to the St. Jude’s bake sale (I remember especially a yummy kahlua cake!) where I would pay the Guild extra $$$ for Mardelle’s cake. She donated and contributed so much through the years. We were especially drawn together by our love of dogs – my Hannah (Weimaraner) and her George . We exchanged many stories and pictures and she sent me hand-drawn cards which always included a sketch of George. Mardelle was a warm and loving woman and I (with many) will always miss her. She is now where she wanted to be, with her beloved Mel. Rest in Peace, Mardelle. Love, Jean
