Obituary of Maurice Lawty

Maurice “Maury” Lawty was born to English immigrant parents, Albert and Bertha, in Chehalis, Washington, on September 13, 1929. He was raised on a rural Chehalis farm in Pleasant Valley, graduated from Adna High School Class of 1947, and then attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago. Afterwards, he served in the military, and while in the Army, he met his future wife, Melva, in New Jersey while en route to serve in Trieste, Italy. Upon returning to the USA, Maurice and Melva married and then made their home in Grand Mound, Washington. Laureen and Dan were born before the family moved to Olympia in 1959, where Maury was employed by Olympia Electric for 36 years, until retirement in 1991. Maurice passed away on September 5, 2014, in Tumwater, Washington, a week shy of turning 85. He is predeceased by infant brother, Gordon; and older brothers, Kenneth, Norval and Leonard. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Melva; children, Laureen and Dan; and several nieces and nephews. Maurice’s interests included hunting, fishing, and vegetable gardening. Getting to know God was meaningful all his life, and he found lifelong direction and comfort in his faith. Maurice and family appreciate all of you who cared for, encouraged, and prayed for him. Particularly, we thank the staff and nurses in each of the care facilities and hospice in the most recent years. Please leave memories of Maurice or condolences for his family in the Guestbook below.
