Obituary of Janis Leslie Laukkanen

Janis Leslie Laukkanen was born on February 26, 1942, in Aberdeen, Washington. She went home to be with her Lord and Savior on March 9, 2024, in Lacey, Washington.

She graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1960 and married Ron Laukkanen in 1961.

Jan was active in many community groups, including Young Mothers, St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary, Rotary (in support of Ron’s term as President), Aberdeen High School sports, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, and served students and families in the Aberdeen School District for many years in various District roles.

Jan loved to entertain guests and was an avid bridge player. She also had a great love of classical music and played the piano.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Helen George; and her husband, Ron Laukkanen. She is survived by her three children, Kirsten Dugan (Gary), Adam (Michelle), and Kurt (Anne). Her nine grandchildren were the light of her life and she delighted in supporting their activities: Alexa Nudelman (Jake), Joshua Dugan, Kelli Ann Dugan, Keegan Wentworth, Jade Wentworth, Gracie Laukkanen, Kai Laukkanen, Kellen Laukkanen, and Liam Laukkanen. She is also survived by her dearly loved sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Terry Biggs.

Jan will be remembered for making the world around her more beautiful, making the people around her feel welcome (and well fed!), and making ordinary occasions extra special. She did not wish to have a service.

In lieu of flowers, please consider celebrating her life with a random act of kindness. She (and we, her family) would be thrilled to know that her love continues to be shared with others.

Please leave condolences or share memories and photos on the Tribute Wall to the left.
