Obituary of Robert L. Cody

Robert L. “Bob” Cody, 82, passed away of natural causes on January 6, 2024, in Olympia, Washington. He was born May 29, 1941, to Lowery W. and Betty (Frisch) Cody, and was the eldest of five children.

Robert graduated from Olympia High School with the Class of 1959 and served in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany for two years prior to marrying his high school sweetheart, Linda H. Croll on June 23, 1962, in Olympia.  They made their home and raised their children in Lacey, Washington, from 1968 to 2019 when he sold the family home and moved out to his daughter’s property where he resided with her family, in Southwest Olympia, where she cared for him until his passing.

Robert was a hardworking family man.  He worked as a salesman for Dutch Boy Paints and a delivery driver for Orowheat Bakeries early in their marriage, and as their family grew, he went to work at Continental Can Company (CCC) in Lacey, now known as Crown Cork & Seal, as a press operator for several years before becoming a machinist maintainer and member of the IAM. He opted for an early retirement after 30 years and enjoyed spending his time hunting, fishing, traveling with his wife Linda, and helping to care for their youngest grandchildren.

Robert was loyal, generous, loving, always ready to help anyone when needed, and he loved to laugh and make friends wherever he went. He could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere, and always had “jokes and stories” to tell, and recipes to share.

He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman and was a member of the South Sound Chapter of the Puget Sound Anglers. He was also a rockhound and took his family on multiple family vacations throughout the U.S., hunting for rocks and minerals, sapphire mining, and gold dredging.

He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Cody; his sons, Daniel (Denise) and Thomas (Katie); 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Susan (Heiko) Volkmann, Christine Cody, and Melissa (Peter) Hillmann. He was predeceased by his parents, Lowery and Betty; his wife, Linda (May 18, 2005); brother, Craig; grandson, Thomas (TJ) Cody Jr.; and his great-granddaughter, Scarlett Cody.

A celebration of Roberts’ life will be held this summer, date to be determined, where the family hopes all his friends will gather, share stories, and celebrate.
