Obituary of Hugo E. Brodin

Hugo E. Brodin passed away April 29, 2023, in Lacey, Washington.  He was born December 7, 1937, to Hugo M. and Edith E. Brodin in Kennicot, Alaska.  Over the years, he also resided in Aberdeen, Washington; Wishkah, Washington; and Eagle River, Alaska.

 

Hugo served in the U.S. Navy from 1957 to 1961, stationed at Point Mugu in California and Okinawa, Japan. He graduated from Grays Harbor College, and married Loretta Amanda White on September 25, 1964, in Aberdeen, Washington.

 

Professionally, Hugo was a mill worker for Grays Harbor Pulp and Paper (1962-1992); worked in logistics for Ocean Spray (1992-1995); and was a caregiver for various organizations (1993-2011).

 

Hugo was a patient man who enjoyed the company of his friends and family.  He took care of those around him throughout his entire life.  He loved everyone around him and his guidance blessed many generations of his family.  Hugo was highly intelligent and constantly reading. He loved his politics and civil debates, educating himself and many others.

 

He was a passionate outdoorsman who loved nature, hunting, fishing, farming, and beekeeping.  He was a Lifetime Member of the John Birch Society, Ducks Unlimited, and the Eagles.

 

He is survived by his son, Fred Vessey; daughter, Edith Leighton; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and brothers, Harold Brodin of Stanwood, Washington, and Herb Brodin of Kent, Washington.  He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Loretta Brodin; and sister, Silvia McCaw.

 

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 24, 2023, 11:00 a.m. at Olympia Salvation Army, 1505 Fourth Ave. E, Olympia, WA 98506.
