We are very sorry to hear about Dick's passing. It sounds like he led a wonderful life. He was always so nice when we would occasionally run into him in the neighborhood. He seemed like such a sweet soul. We are sorry for your loss.

I met Dick late in life, never had the pleasure of knowing him in his prime. I have heard from many people about his kind, caring and loving life he led. He had great love for his children, I have heard many stories of how he would go out of his comfort zone to help his children. I have had the pleasure of meeting his offspring and their children. They are all gentle, courteous, and caring people. This is a testament to his leadership. I love all of Dick's family!

Benny Maxwell (Ruth’s ex-brother-in-law) wrote Dick’s wife, 2/6/23
Joshua (Benny’s son) let me know that Dick had passed away. I understand you had plenty of time to prepare, but we both know, expected or not, It’s hard to take. I want to express my sympathy for your loss. I always looked up to Dick, even though he was about the most intelligent man I’ve known. He never made me feel I wasn’t on his level. I liked talking with him. He was a great guy!

Sharing a condolence letter from a TU professor:
John K Harris wrote to Dick’s wife, 2/6/23
I saw in yesterday’s Tulsa World that Dick passed away 1/30/23. I’m so sorry, but I know it was a blessing given his memory issues. That is, in a sense you must feel some relief along with your grief. Of all the Business faculty (of TU), Dick was in the top 2 or 3 in terms of having a joyful and endearing friendship (with me). He was a “good man.”

Dad’s daily schedule: Headed Senta’s robe. Feed kids ice cream with a shot of Pepsi. Drive kids to school. Spill coffee cup on the way. Return to school at lunch to delivered Senta’s forgotten lunch money. Return to pick up kids at 3. Wait an hour in the parking lot for Senta to say goodbye to all the teachers, and never complain. Go teach a night class. Sometimes take kids to TU and let them run around unsupervised till security brings them back. Keep Senta up late to watch Miami Vice, Johnny Carson, and the Honeymooners. Once a week, have Senta fake illness so we can go get lunch and go to the mall. My First best friend. I really loved the days when Dad would decide on a whim take us to Arkansas to have lunch with Papa and rent a plane to get there.

Dick was so personable. I loved to talk with him. Whether it was in person or on the phone, he always gave his undivided attention to the person he was talking with. He always made me feel special when I would go to visit. He seemed genuinely interested in whatever we would find to discuss. He was so intelligent, but could talk at length on most any subject. I always felt a little smarter after our visits.
My love and prayers go out for all Dick's family. He was a very special, one-of-a-kind person. He was a great brother-in-law, even from afar. He was handsome, smart, caring, but the first thing I will remember was that he always had a genuine smile anytime I would see him.
Dick will be missed by all that were blessed to have known him.

I always knew Dick was highly educated by the way he carried himself and the way he spoke. He always treated
co-workers as his equal when clearly that wasn’t the case between Dick and I.
I never saw Dick when he didn’t have a smile on his face and a kind word to say in passing at work.
I changed jobs and Dick left as well to purse one of his many Higher Education dreams only to cross paths about 10 years later through education. This time it was Colin and Senta’s education that were Dick and Ruth’s priority. At the time, I was a stay at home mother raising my two children and they needed before and after school care for Colin and Senta. A teacher at the school our children attended gave Dick my name.
When Dick and I worked together, I wasn’t married so when the teacher gave Dick my name, it was such a pleasant surprise when we met again. I was going through a very difficult time after loosing 2 brothers so I was honored to care for Colin and Senta as it helped fill my spare time and heal my broken heart.
Colin and Senta were as wonderful as their parents and
Ryan and Leigh looked up to Colin and Senta so the friendship was reunited in our children.
Anytime Dick would drop Colin and Senta off at my house, he always had the same smile on his face and the soft, kind words in our conversation.
I was honored to call Dick my friend and I loved Ruth, Colin and Senta as though they were my family.
Miles may keep us from seeing each other regularly but the Roberts family are forever in my heart thanks to the opportunity to work with Dick my first year out of high school.
RIP Dick.
