Obituary of Monique Jeanne Sudreau Taylor

Monique Jeanne Sudreau Taylor, born in Rochefort-sur-Mer, France, on March 1, 1930, died of natural causes on January 11, 2022, in Edmonds, Washington. After graduating from Ecole Normale d’Institutrices and teaching 1st grade, Monique moved to Olympia, Washington, with the love of her life, Don Taylor, whom she met at a beach in Fouras, where she agreed to teach him French.

Monique created a home for her husband and son, “Danny,” filled with constant attention, advice, delicious French cuisine, and good wine. She was proud to be French and traveled to Europe throughout her life, remaining connected to her sister, other family members, and friends. Monique and Don traveled to many states to vacation and connect with their grandkids. Monique enjoyed fine dining, special occasions in Seattle, fashion, holiday gatherings, and cheering for the Huskies with Don.

Monique led an interesting life. She hosted a children’s cooking show on PBS, interpreted official documents, worked in the language department at CHS, and faithfully tracked her life in journals. She felt she earned the title of, “Mémé,” and took her role in her family seriously. Monique looked at life through the eyes of a philosopher and shared those thoughts often. She loved her family fiercely and enjoyed her friends immensely. Everyone benefited from her care packages! She faithfully followed her mantra, “food is love.”

Monique is survived by her son, Dan Taylor (Jennifer); granddaughter, Jennifer Allen (Ben); great-grandsons, William and Henry Allen; grandson, Marc Taylor (Kassidy); great granddaughter, Tomi Taylor; sister, Genevieve Millet; nieces, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, Don Taylor; and her parents, René and Denise Sudreau.

A memorial service to celebrate Monique’s life will be held at Friday, January 21, 2022, 12:00 p.m., at South Sound Manor, 455 North St. SE, Tumwater, WA 98501. Burial to follow.

Special gratitude to the gentle, skilled, and loving people at Living in Comfort in Edmonds, Washington, who took care of Monique in her later years where she continued to enjoy good home cooking!
