Dear Don and Daughters; Linda, Rose, Kathy and Lori;
This tribute is very difficult to sum up in words and I'm afraid it is not very eloquent.
I feel so lucky and fortunate to have crossed-paths will Louise and the rest of you. You have always treated me like family and I felt welcomed and comfortable from the start. Thank you for embracing me and letting me be part of this great, fun, loving family!
Although I can't recall specifics, I met Louise in the late 70's/early 80's in the biking/running circle. These were some of the best days of my life - training for triathlons with Louise and others. She was 20 years my senior but she ALWAYS kicked my heinie! She was strong, full of energy and motivated. She was always a positive spirit! Often after work we would meet up and ride. Louise would often take off and leave Don and I in the dust. That was ok because I enjoyed my visits with Don just as much. The more I write this the more events and good times stream into my head - like the time we rode to the Rose Ranch or the Daffodil Classic rides or the very first Black Hills Triathlon (at Millersylvania Park) which started out as a 1/2 Ironman; 1 mile swim, 62 mile bike ride and 13.1 mile run. It later changed to a shorter distance.
I was fortunate to be able to do time-trials with her and ride 100 mile bike rides on the weekends. We rode STP (202 miles) several times and even in one day. We biked the first RAMOD (152 miles over three mountain passes) - Louise continued to ride this one for years! We rode all of the organized rides and then did the Triathlons. Everyone would cling to Louise and wanted to be with her because she was so fun and full of love and life.
Louise was the CHAMP. She even competed in the Hawaiian Ironman several times and Won her division 5 times. This is a big deal. We would swim at the Evergreen State College Olympic pool where I received my undergraduate degree. During the summers we swam in the lakes near her home - training 2 miles at a time. I could go on and on at the fun we had.
Later in her years after her knee operations, bike crashes and other challenges, Louise just moved on! Nothing stopped her. She traveled several countries and biked, she was best friends with her four daughters, husband and grandkids but she also treated everyone as a friend and with dignity and respect. She laughed big and always had a smile on her face.
One of her other loves was CM and her cabin. The last time I spent time with her was when I went up there to do a CM yoga event and I camped at the river near her cabin. Sure enough, Louise and daughter Rose, came walking through the campground with their dogs. I knew right away who it was. Andrea and I joined them at their cabin for dinner and had a hoot of a time. She will be missed so much by so many. I have received calls from people telling me they heard about Louise - a legend in so many ways. Cheers to you Louise! I LOVE YOU!
Love, Sheryl Hall (P.S. I didn't take photos earlier on so I am not sure if I have any. I wish I did and maybe I will find some soon!).

This is a beautiful tribute to such an inspiring human being. My heart goes out to her family. I am blessed to have met her as a fellow instructor at Crystal. She relished the challenge of teaching first time adult beginners- large groups that showed up in blue jeans and leather jackets that had never seen snow before. A grueling task for any instructor, but Louise loved it! She’d work her magic on the hill and come back beaming into the locker room! Just a remarkable woman! May her tremendous spirit live on in all our hearts.

We could not feel this loss so acutely if Louise was not such a big, warm, lovely and inspirational woman. My memories are many, one I will share. KT and I were returning from a 4H event in Centralia. KT driving up Michigan Hill let out an expletive complaining about a bicycle rider hogging the road. As we passed KT said “Dang, that’s Mom!”
Loved her and am so sorry she is gone. Thought she would last forever.
