Maria Kroon

Obituary of Maria W. Kroon

Maria W. “Mary” Kroon, 90, passed away October 9, 2021, in Olympia, Washington.  A resident of Olympia for 65 years, she lived in Brookdale Olympia West the past four years.  She was born October 22, 1930, to Heinrich and Maria (Van Derree) Willkomm in The Hague, Netherlands, and had two sisters and a brother.  She was a World War II survivor.

In 1957, Mary, her husband, Antonius Hendricus “Tony” Kroon, and their two children came to America, sponsored by the First United Methodist Church of Olympia.  She was still a member of the church at the time of her passing.

Mary enjoyed knitting, being a homemaker, and spending time with family and friends.  When Tony joined the Independent Order of Foresters (IOF) and served as a High Court Officer for 20 years, the family had the opportunity to travel and meet wonderful, lifelong friends.

Mary and Tony shared and showed their love while singing praises and dancing through life together.  Tony passed away February 5, 2012.

Mary is survived by her children, Marianne Kroon-Hassfeld (Cor) of the Netherlands, Dick Kroon (Anna) of Tacoma, Washington; grandchildren, Darcie, Tony, Pam, Kimmie and Casey; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mary had a great and interesting life. We will truly miss her.

RIP Lieve, Mama, Oma and Mary!
