Obituary of Sharon Cay Bruland

Sharon Cay Bruland, age 77, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2020, in her home at Easthaven Villa Memory Care in Yelm, Washington. Sharon loved her children and grandchildren, and was such a loving mom even up through her last days while taking care of the baby dolls in the mock nursery at the memory care facility where she resided.

Sharon was born Sharon C. Clodfelter on January 20, 1943, in Stockton, California, to Virginia Woodin. She grew up on a dairy farm 20 miles east of Bellingham, Washington, and enjoyed skiing. Sharon graduated from Mt Baker High School in 1961 and attended community college until marrying Roger Bruland in October 1962. Sharon’s occupational career outside of the home began in 1976 at the Tyee Motor Inn Gift Shop, then receptionist at a glass shop in Olympia, Bank teller for Heritage Bank, part time driver for ParaTransit, and ending as secretary for the Shelton Detachment WSP, where she retired in December 2005. She loved her troopers and, during her early years with Alzheimer’s, she wanted to go back to work.

Sharon's passion was her family. When her children were younger, she loved camping and spending weekends at the ocean looking for agates on the beach. Sharon always loved living near the salt water, which is where her family came to visit most often. Sharon loved watching her grandchildren play and listen to their stories; she loved creating memories for them. Sharon loved fishing, gardening, the outdoors, sewing, listening to music, listening to and watching the birds, picnics and outings, buying and making special things for her family, and making meals and sharing her recipes. She was a cat lover.

Sharon is survived by her children, Eric Bruland, Leslie Bruland, Susan and Kevin Vincent, Jeramy and Michelle Bruland; grandchildren, Jarrald and Samaria Norsworthy, Patricca and James Zyski, Andrew Bruland, Josh Bruland, Kamika Bruland, Marinna Bruland, Rielly Bruland, Hayden Bruland; great-grandchildren, Kaeleigh Norsworthy, Josiah Norsworthy, Carson Zyski, Kyrie Boede; siblings, Gordon “Craig” and Lila Massey, Roger “Scott” and Sharron Massey, and Tracey Silver; nephews and niece, Darren and Dorthy Massey (daughter, Jemma), Rob Massey, Kailee Massey, and Jerry Burton Jr.

Special thank you to Easthaven Villa Memory Care in Yelm for loving Sharon and taking such good care of her; to Deborah Bruland for being such a wonderful friend over the years, second mom to Sharon’s children, and wonderful example of how families of divorce can get along; New Beginnings Outreach Ministry church family for the spiritual support given over the last several years to Sharon and all of her family.
