Obituary of Darrell Hays Garman II

Darrell Hays Garman II was born May 3, 1935 in Republic, Kansas, and passed away June 4, 2018, at his home in Lacey, Washington. Son of Darrell Hays Garman and May Elanor Thomas, Darrell graduated from Republic High School in 1953, and then received a two-year degree from Fairbury College.

On June 5, 1955, Darrell married his high school sweetheart, Arnita Mae Harms. He joined the U.S. Army in 1957, and was stationed in Germany; he was honorably discharged in 1963 while living in Hays, Kansas. After his discharge, he was employed by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, followed by the Bonneville Power Administration, for a total of 40-plus years of Federal service. During those years, Darrell and his family lived in Cheyenne, Wyoming; Basalt, Colorado; Eugene, Oregon; Missoula, Montana; finally settling in Lacey, Washington.  After retirement in December of 1997, Darrell continued to work during summer months as a contract inspector. Winters were spent in Yuma, Arizona, with his wife, Arnita, and extended family.

Darrell enjoyed his time visiting with family and friends and traveling between Yuma, Republic, Lacey and Hood Canal. He loved his Jayhawk basketball and Cornhusker football.

Darrell is preceded in death by his wife; parents; brother, Thomas Val Gene Garman; and sisters, Narvene Brzon and Vera Burge. He is survived by his four children, Curtis, Thomas, Lisa and Darrin of the Lacey-Olympia area; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews who knew him as Uncle Pink or Pinky.
