Obituary of Virgil Paul Greeley

Virgil Paul Greeley of Olympia, Washington, went to join Jesus his Savior, the Master Carpenter; beloved grandsons, Brandon deWeber and Adam Eastman; brothers, Buddy (Floyd Alden) and Everett; and sister, Bernadine, on October 22, 2020, after bravely battling interstitial lung disease for many months.  His death came at the age of 87.  He will be greatly missed by his family, but leaves behind a creative legacy that touched many families.  This legacy includes his artwork of seascapes, landscapes and portraits, the many homes that he built, buildings adorned by his brickwork, and remembrance of his kindheartedness, boundless support of his family, guitar licks, and joking commentary.

Virgil served in the U.S. Navy on a blimp crew during the years of 1951-1954 during the Korean War era.

His favorite scripture was John 14:2, and he would often share this with others.

Virgil’s life was full of blessings, which include his surviving wife of 55 years, Carol (Larson); adult children “joys of his life,” Jennifer (Kevin) deWeber, Lisa (Scott) Eastman, Daniel Greeley, and Katie (Rob) Cook; grandchildren, Jay (Keeley) deWeber, Kirstin (Daniel) Smith, Erik deWeber, Elisabeth (Chey) Yeary, Chris Eastman, Raven Stevenson, Lauren (Steven) Wells, Morgan Griffith, and Lucy Cook, and great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Elliott (Elisabeth and Chey) Yeary and Margaret (Kirstin and Daniel) Smith.   He is also survived by brother, Eugene Greeley; brother-in-law, Ron Clarkson; sister, Beulah Lund; and many, many nieces and nephews.

The family extends overflowing hearts of gratitude to Providence Sound Home Care and Hospice; Advanced Health Care; VA Puget Sound Health Care; and kind neighbors, Louise and Elba, for the assistance provided to Virgil at the end of his life.

His remains will be interred at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington, where there will be a private ceremony.  A celebration of his life will be scheduled at a later date when social gatherings can be more inclusive of those of advanced age and frail health.
