He married Elva Ricketts on September 30, 1961 in Parkland, Washington.  They raised their family in Puyallup and, in retirement, moved to North Port, Florida, in 2003.  They returned to Lacey in 2014.

Dave was a history buff.  He enjoyed guns, photography, ghost towns, and was always tinkering around in his shop.  He was a member of VFW in Aberdeen, Washington, and Temple Baptist Church in Lacey.
